Sapucaias

26.10.2011

Sapucaia city, at Paraíba Valley, was named after its vast quantity of Sapucaia trees. Today very few trees survived in the city, but there’s one in particular that can be seen next to the train station. During springtime the leaves change color, exploding into a red and pink spectacle, captured here by Marina Mercante’s lenses.

Monica Carvalho Studio uses the Sapucaia fruit to assemble various objects like chachepots, candlesticks and even sculptures, warning us about the need of preservation and reenforcing Brazil’s natural beauty.
